What is an OEM part number? Here's how to find the right snowmobile part.
What is an OEM part number?
When searching for snowmobile parts, you will almost certainly encounter the term OEM part number. Using the correct part number is one of the most reliable ways to find the exact part suitable for your snowmobile.
What does OEM part number mean?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. The OEM part number is an identifier used by the manufacturer to uniquely identify a specific part.
When you search for parts using the OEM part number, you usually find the exact right part much more accurately than by just model or year.
Why is the part not always found by number?
This is especially common with snowmobiles.
Many aluminum cast parts have a cast number that looks like a part number. However, this is often casting number, not an actual OEM part number.
Although the numbers may look similar, a casting number alone may not yield any search results or the correct part.
If the part is not found by number, first make sure that it is a correct OEM part number and not just a casting number.
Why can the same part be found under several different OEM numbers?
Manufacturers update part numbers over time. Because of this, the same part may appear under several different OEM part numbers, even though the part itself has remained exactly the same.
For this reason, an old OEM number does not always yield search results, even if the part is still available under a new number.
